NPO Coffee Break | Board Governance & Tax Compliance

Join us for coffee, cinnamon buns, and two educational sessions geared towards non-profit organizations and charities. Executive directors, board members and staff are all welcome to join. The afternoon will focus on two areas of importance to the sector: Board Governance and Tax Compliance.

Board Governance: Board members have a number of key responsibilities when overseeing an organization, but may be new to the role or not understand where the role of management ends and the board’s role begins. When board members understand their responsibilities, the group is more effective at identifying and addressing risks and evaluating the performance of the organization. We will share best practices in board governance and answer questions about how to apply these practices to your situation.

Tax Compliance: While Not for Profit organizations and Charities typically do not pay corporate income taxes, these organizations have a number of filing requirements with Canada Revenue Agency. We will explore these filings, including the T2 Corporate Income Tax Return, the T1044 Not for Profit Information Return, the T3010 Charity Return, GST and the T3 Trust Return. Join us as we cover the requirements and recent changes in these forms, so you can effectively prepare your next return.
